THE KING was graciously pleased to publish his intention to honour various subjects on the occasion of the restoration and opening of the Hanoverian Parliament on 30th October, 2021:


KNIGHT COMPANION OF THE MOST NOBLE ORDER OF THE ACT

Investiture of The Most Noble Order of the Act is the among the highest honours within the gift of the Crown. Membership is granted to loyal subjects who have, by their actions, offered invaluable service to the Crown, living up to the Order's motto, "Actions Speak Louder Than Words". The order has but a single degree, that of Knight (or Lady) Companion.

For services in the areas of heraldic design and development, and assistance to the Crown, generally:

HRH The Prince Lawrence, Duke of Gottingen

HRH The Prince Edward, Duke of Brunswick

For services in the area of foreign diplomacy:

The Rt. Hon. The Earl of Aspenwald, HM Minister for Foreign Affairs


KNIGHT COMPANION OF THE ROYAL HANOVERIAN ORDER

Investiture of the Royal Hanoverian Order enjoys a prestige equal to that of investiture of the Most Noble Order of the Act. The purpose of the order is to express the especial favour of the Sovereign and the Royal House. The order has but a single degree, that of Knight (or Lady) Companion.

Investiture to the Order of the Act and to the Royal Hanoverian Order is by Letters Patent under the Great Seal. The relevant instruments will be registered in the Grand Archives in due course. Insignia are not provided by the Crown, although guidance may be obtained with respect to the acquisition of the same, upon request.

ON THE ROAD TO ARMAGEDDON

KEROUAC 100 Happening by chance, yesterday, to catch the news that it was Jack Kerouac’s 100 th birthday, it occurred to me that I can well remember the kind of world in which Jack Kerouac’s centennial would have been a much bigger deal than it is capable of being, today. A full segment on the evening news would have been devoted to his life and literature; he would have been a feature on “60 Minutes”; bookstores (there were more of them back when I was a young man) would have been stocked up with copies of “On the Road”, promoting a Jack Kerouac sale of some kind in the weeks leading up to yesterday.   Minus the sex and drugs (although not necessarily the driving), a miniature polity has a thing or two in common, it seems to me, with Kerouac’s celebrated roman a clef . There is a “beat” element to even the most conservative ephemeral realm and rolling these things along their trajectory can often seem like continuously typing on a single roll of paper from beginning to end. ...
